Gettin' Fresh in SoCal

If you're (or ever have been) Vegan, than you know what it's like to be the one eating the "veggie with no cheese" amongst a group of people with whom you're dining out. It's hit or miss.
It may come to your table quite a delight, or it could arrive sparse with dead veggies, and cold.

We get used to these things.

You may not necessarily mind, because after all, it's for the animals, but let's face it. That cheese-less pie would be a lot more attractive (and delicious) if it were from

As much as I like to cook at home, it's nice to get out and try a bit of what others are creating out there in the food world, and this one is a gem amongst coal! Though Fresh Brothers isn't exclusively a Vegan pizza joint, their crusts, sauces are totally animal free, and their veggie toppings just love getting it on with a heaping pile of Daiya Mozzarella Cheeze! Of all Vegan Cheeses available on the market today, this one takes the cake for being the best to shred, melt, and stretch! Not to mention, the taste is GREAT.

The smell of the perfectly-baked crust combined with an amazing traditional sauce will take you back to your childhood days at Showbiz Pizza! With all of these choice ingredients combined, Fresh Brothers hits the nail on the head.
Way to go, guys! :)

BTW, Fresh Brothers' pizzas are quite filling, so get excited about leftovers ;)

Comfort Food? Yeah, Baby!

Step aside, carnivorous misconceptions.
One of the questions I've heard most often throughout my years so far being Vegan, "Don't you miss (insert comfort food here)??" I have only one way of answering that inquiry, and that is by saying, "No". However, there are two reasons for that one answer. One, I don't miss animal products in my life (or in my mouth for that matter). I feel better all around having excluded them, physically, and mentally. And two,
"No", because I still have those comfort foods!! Thanks to people like Alicia Simpson of Atlanta, who is the author of the incredible cookbook, "Vegan Comfort Food". And, of course, thanks to my wonderful boyfriend for getting me the book for Christmas. ;)
So far from this amazingly simple and cost effective publication, we have enjoyed AMAZING banana pancakes, Mac & Cheeze, Tempeh "Tuna" Salad, as well as super easy and delicious Potato Salad!

And what would comfort food be without cornbread?? Well, not very comforting at all. Even better? Adding blueberries and pouring into a muffin tin! This recipe took about five minutes to put together, and 20 minutes to bake to perfection.
Vegan or not, I seriously recommend this book.
Great if you are cooking for someone who needs to cut back on their cholesterol.
Alicia Simpson, I salute you!

Morning Would

Mmm, what's not to love about a little Morning Would....n't you like to have something delicious to start your day? ;)

Well, if you're in Iowa City, IA, you, my friend, are in LUCK. Get your happy ass over to Fair Grounds at 345 South Dubuque St., and order a Texas Omelette. Though the menu is full of variety and plenty to choose from, I find myself ordering this same thing, time and again. An amazing sight for hungry eyes, this delight consists of a delicious tofu scramble delicately folded in to waffle batter, and cooked to perfection. It comes with the fantastic Vegan Cow Cheese baked right in, topped with a super-fresh salsa. Be sure to ask for it with the dairy-free sour cream.
It will leave you begging for more.
Oh, and speaking of Hot Herbivores, be sure to say hello to Christine, the owner and creator of Vegan Cow Brand Cheese. You may even want to kiss her.
